on the river

Cold, clear water on a 100-degree July afternoon makes the Big Blackfoot a popular place.  Despite the seemingly wild surroundings, the river's close proximity to the city of Missoula brings throngs to its lower sections during the height of the summer season.

The challenge is to insure this temporary human population has minimal impact on the permanent populations of the natives -- golden and bald eagles, river otters, elk, deer, black and grizzly bear, cougar, lynx.. the list goes on.
